Merging Ministries: A Chance for Environmental Issues to Take the Lead

Ukraine is undergoing a large-scale reorganization of its central government bodies. One of the key decisions will be the merger of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources into a single institution.

For a long time, environmental policy in our country has been treated as secondary to economic growth. However, the experience of EU countries shows that sustainable development is only possible when economic and environmental priorities are addressed together. Where economic planning takes environmental needs into account, it lays the foundation for a green economy: one that ensures both the well-being of people and the preservation of nature.

We believe this merger could become an important step toward Ukraine’s Green Recovery.

For INPOLIT NGO, this decision is particularly significant as it fully aligns with our core principle: in the new structure, environmental issues must not be overshadowed by economic concerns but instead become the cornerstone of decision-making. Only in this way can we build a truly sustainable, safe, and prosperous Ukraine.
